Spirit of the Club

The Para Hills Community Club is proud to be able to provide a place of meeting and companionship for the people of this tight and close-knit community.  Para Hills has a wonderful community spirit that exists in this Northern Suburb.  The friendliness and familiar faces people are greeted by which is often only found in small country towns could possibly be one of the reasons patrons will stop in for a cold drink, coffee, a meal and a chat.  Since the Clubs establishment some 40 years ago by a group of people that wanted to give families that moved here and lived in the local area somewhere to meet and feel welcome, the Club has evolved into much more being a source of financial support and physical, hands on help to many different Sporting Clubs, Fundraising Ventures, Hospitals, Schools and Social Groups that have crossed it’s paths over the years.

The Para Hills Community Club has always been heavily supportive of different fundraising events throughout the year.  This year one of our main charities has been the McGuiness McDermott Foundation a very worthwhile charity providing support to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Oncology unit.  This money has been donated throughout the year by the generosity of the Committee from profits made by the Club and donation tins.  Due to one of our staff wanting to support the Cancer Council  we were also part of Australia’s Largest Morning Tea raising $1033.40 through a raffle and $885.00.  Camp Quality again has been one of our beneficiaries with the holding of a Motown night held in our Function Room.  The evening was a huge success put on by one of our Committee Members we were able to waver the costs of hiring the room and donate prizes for be auctioned/raffled off during the night.

Primary Schools and Child Care Centres are also beneficiaries of the Club, we are always glad to help with raffle and quiz night prizes of bottles of wine and dinner vouchers to help their fundraising efforts.

Social Clubs such as Senior Citizens, Ladies Probus and Apex regularly hold their ½ yearly and yearly functions at the Para Hills Community Club, with the Club waivering any service fee associated with the hiring of the function room. The Para Hills Senior Citizens Community Club held their Christmas Luncheon at our Club, but unfortunately, their entertainment never arrived, due to the quick actions of our Duty Manager the staff of the Para Hills Community Club were rallied up and entertained the Seniors with Christmas carols.  With that, the Seniors donated the entertainment cheque to the Para Hills Community Club who in turn donated this The Smith Family.

The General Manager – Cameron Taylor is involved with Para Hills Neighbourhood Watch Area 441, holding the position as Treasurer. He is constantly aware that the group requires volunteers and being involved illustrates to the community that you are a local and care about your neighbourhood.  Dinner vouchers are donated to Neighbourhood Watch on a monthly basis to recognize their willingness to provide a safer environment.

The Children’s Christmas Party is held on the last Sunday in November every year, which is an event held for the member’s children. This event has proved to be a real winner; we have an average of 200 children each year in attendance, with committee members, staff and members volunteering to lend a hand on the big day. The day costs the club approximately $11,000 but it is a great way to give back a little too just the average family member.

The Club recognizes that by using local business, such as butchers, electrical Stores etc. often over bigger companies helps keep money in the local community. We believe in not just helping by donations but purchasing products our local businesses for example, our meat trays which are given away as part of our raffles from Para Hills Quality Meats and also electrical products for our Thursday and Friday night super raffles from The Good Guys.
