Community

The Para Hills Community Club’s objectives are to promote, support and encourage its members and members of the local community to participate in and have appreciation of the fields of Sport, Music, Arts and Literature all of which promote a healthy attitude to community participation and awareness. We have worked strongly within our Community in the past few years to ensure our message is understood in the local and broader community.

The Clubs variety of support and encouragement ranges from Soccer, Boxing, Cricket, Football & Ladies Probus Clubs, Cancer Council, Vietnam Veterans just to name a few.

We illustrate this by offering the facilities within the Club such as our function room where individuals, clubs or organizations may hold fund raising events, with the Club waivering some of the associated fees and donating prizes for raffles.

Support and assistance, should it be financially or hands on, may be granted when formally and or informally requested. If the Club is unable to assist, other alternatives from other businesses or organizations will be offered.

Our commitment to the community is seen: - TO PROVIDE COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SUPPORT

One of our main charities has been the McGuiness McDermott Foundation a very worthwhile charity providing support the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Oncology unit. This money has been donated throughout the year by the generosity of the Committee from profits made by the Club and donation tins raising community awareness of these concerns.

The outcome of this funding will help make life easier for children with cancer, by funds going towards up-grading areas of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital used by the children.

The Club also supports The Smith Family a charity that supports children and families living in financial disadvantage to create a better future through education.

The outcome of this funding  helps unlock opportunities for financially burdened families, promote education as a means of increasing participation through lifelong learning, and do this through the provisions of reading, computer and financial literacy support.

The Children’s Christmas Party is held on the last Sunday in November every year, which is an event held for the member’s children. This event has proved to be a real winner; we have an average of 200 children each year in attendance, with committee members, staff and members volunteering to lend a hand on the big day. The day costs the club in excess of $10,000 but it is a great way to give back a little to the average family member.  Each child receives a present valued at between $20-$30  from Father Christmas and a sausage sizzle, fairy floss, can of drink and an icecream for a registration fee of just $10

The Salisbury CFS lends their services on the day to ensure that Father Christmas arrives safely on the big red engine.  St Johns First Aid also volunteers their services by supplying two (2) of their volunteers.  Carnival rides, barbeque, fairy floss, drinks, face painting, a marquee, table and chairs, ice creams and much more is provided on the special day.

Oxfam Australia was a fundraising event that has been held in our function room for a member of the Para Hills Community Club to help raise further funds by trekking through China on a bicycle for 11 days. The service fee for the function room of $385 was waivered.  Lucky envelopes, an Esky/Fridge valued at $300, DVD Player valued at $170 were donated for raffle prizes.
The outcome to this cause was community awareness to third world poverty and injustice.

We feel that small clubs need our community support in order to prosper.  It also highlights a true community way of life, larger clubs assisting smaller clubs.  This makes for a strong community our photo wall “Wall of Appreciation: also assists other in the community aware of others achievements add pride of the fellow man/woman.
